From Idea to Implementation: How the Chumakivka Community is Building Its Future

More and more Ukrainian communities are joining various initiatives, developing their own recovery plans, municipal energy plans, and sustainable development strategies. This will help attract donor funds and accelerate Ukraine's recovery after the war.
Even a small rural community can achieve significant results. The Chumaky community in the Dnipropetrovsk region, with a population of about 4,000 people, has become a bright example of this. With the support of international partners SOMBRILLA, the RcErBs Lubny Foundation, and PARASOL, implemented jointly with the Foundation and Bankwatch Network and the NGO “Ecoaction,” the community has developed and is implementing a number of important projects.
Municipal Energy Plan until 2030: This plan includes the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, which will reduce energy costs and minimize the negative impact on the environment.
Environmental Safety and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy: This document outlines the steps necessary to protect the environment and adapt to the effects of climate change.
Comprehensive Territory Recovery Program: This program aims at restoring damaged infrastructure and creating new opportunities for the community’s development.
Thanks to these projects, the Chumaky community is moving forward, showing that even small settlements can become leaders in Ukraine’s recovery and development.
As part of the Comprehensive Territory Recovery Program, priority development areas, including the “Green Map,” as well as economic, security, and social aspects, will be thoroughly studied and agreed upon with the community. This document, after broad discussions at the level of deputy commissions and with the participation of regional administration representatives, will be approved at the city council session and will become a foundational document for the further development of the community.
Special thanks go to the deputy head of the village council, Ms. Yulia Fayzullina, and the entire team, who are making significant efforts to build a better future for the Chumaky community.
