We are pleased to announce that, thanks to their participation in the SOMBRILLA project, both communities have taken a significant step toward energy independence and climate resilience.
What Does This Mean?
Now, the Irshava community from Zakarpattia and the Tairovo community from Odesa region have a clear action plan for efficient energy use. Both municipal councils have approved comprehensive municipal energy plans.
These plans will help:
Reduce energy costs,
Enhance energy security, and
Minimize the negative impact on the environment.
In addition, the communities have developed their Strategies for Environmental Safety and Climate Change Adaptation until 2030. These strategies will enable them to prepare for the effects of climate change, such as droughts, floods, and extreme weather events. With these strategies, the communities will be better equipped to protect their residents and infrastructure.
How Were These Plans Created?
The development of these crucial documents was carried out by experts from the RcErBs Foundation and the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy." Their professional expertise and knowledge enabled the creation of tailored plans for each community, taking into account their unique characteristics and needs. The adoption of these documents by local councils reflects the responsible approach of local authorities toward energy efficiency and environmental protection.
What’s Next?
The implementation of measures outlined in the municipal energy plans and adaptation strategies will position the Irshava and Tairovo communities as examples for other communities in western and southern Ukraine.
We believe that through collective efforts, we can build a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for our communities!
